Kenny B, Travis, Diggins, Ramana in the first stateside R5 ever (and rocking a motor more powerful than the WRC cars), and Mrs Block back in the rainbow-unicorn-laser-robo-T Rex Fiesta!

With love from Carlisle via Cockermouth.
Ye', I know it's sad but when I see a licence plate from my city on the world stage I can't help but think 'cool'.

Since when did an R5 have a motor with more power than a WRC car?

Since they removed or changed the restrictor on the turbo, I guess.

They’re replacing the R5’s standard 1.6L with a special non-FIA-legal 2.0L motor to bring it up to U.S.-level horsepower (no FIA rules in the States).

Oooohh. Related to the rallycross engine then, or completely new build?

Apparently a new build. This is from the release they issued a few weeks back.
The 2000cc is a new engine – developed in-house by M-Sport, using the latest generation Ford EcoBoost technology – and is aimed at markets where FIA homologation is not required, in particular the US and China. The car uses a 34mm air restrictor and produces more power and torque than the Ford Fiesta RS WRC at half the cost.
Based on what I’ve heard the Subarus make, I’d guess it’s putting out power in the 340-380 range.

Sort of off topic, but are the new WRC regs going to 2.0L or just increasing the restrictor size? The 340-380 hp number made that pop into my head because it sounded like that is the sort of power WRC is aiming for with the updated rule package.

As far as I know they’ll still be using the 1.6, just letting it breathe more.

Super excited for this rally it should be a great one with all these cars capable of giving Higgins and Subaru a good run for their money. Hopefully we see the Fiestas back in future rallies. Just wish we also had L’Estage competing.
